Curriculum

What does your child learn at school each day?

Find out information about our curriculum subjects here.

Our curriculum is in line with the National Curriculum and covers all the learning requirements across each of key stage 1 and 2 for each subject. It is broad and ambitious and links to the own children's interests. All subjects are taught sequentially which build on previous knowledge and learning. As a school, we place importance on providing our pupils with a wealth of first-hand experiences to help enrich children's learning. This is successfully achieved through the number of regular visits and visitors we have to the school. It also helps to prepare the children at Eldersfield for their future educational journey.

As a church school, our LIFE vision is embedded in all that we do.

Curriculum overviews and more detailed information is shared with parents in class welcome meetings at the beginning of the school year and via our website pages.

If you’d like to know more about our school’s curriculum please contact us, or arrange a visit to our school and the beautiful, spacious grounds Eldersfield has to offer.

Early Years

We provide a wide variety of practical, engaging and inspiring learning experiences for our Reception children. These include first-hand visits, visitors to school, outdoor learning and Rainbow Challenges. Our EYFS curriculum is defined through our school's LIFE vision -Living and Inspiring Futures for Everyone.

Phonics and Early Reading

At Eldersfield Lawn CE Primary School, we show fidelity to the 'Read Write Inc.' Phonics programme, approved by the DfE to teach children the early stages of reading through Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Small daily phonics group sessions are delivered by our team of highly experienced, dedicated staff and we work closely with the Read, Write Inc. co-ordinator to regularly assess children's reading progress to ensure books and activities are matched to their individual learning needs with precision.
