Primitive Reflexes

Following our work with Stephen Peters from Brain X, please find below a copy of the following information around simple movement and exercise which we hope you will find useful in providing ways you can support your child at home:

  • A copy of Steve's presentation has been included below which many parents attended in the summer term and which was shared more widely via our summer term newsletter. We appreciate this is new for our reception parent cohort.

  • Here is a summary of the different reflex areas, along with an easy to follow video below  to explain and demonstrate some of the simple, yet effective exercises which can be practised at home. (The password for the video will be sent to parents directly.)

  • Palmer
  • Rooting
  • Babinski
  • Spinal Galant
  • ATNR (eye tracking)
  • Moro
  • TLR
  • Landau
  • Babkin
  • STNR

Playtimes

  • For the first few minutes at the start of playtimes, the older children have been great playground buddies by helping to guide the younger children with simple jumping and hopping exercises over the playground markings.
  • We are also practising coming back into the classes from the end of playtimes and lunchtimes using simple movements to help children refocus ready for their learning.
  • Lots of skipping games have also been created, along with fun games which the children can take part in too.

We hope you will find this information helpful and thank you for any support you are able to offer at home.

Little, regular and often is the key to good progress of movement!
