Class 4

Welcome to the Spring Term!

This term we are looking forward to teaching some exciting topics. In English, we are learning about WW2 and our class reader is Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian. Our writing will be based on the book and also a short film called The Piano. In maths, we will be focusing on number and place value. We also have an exciting day planned at STEAM, Swindon, immersing ourselves in the WW2 era, which also supports geography and history. RE is learning about Muslim Britain and Incarnation.

In science, we will be learning about changes and reproduction and the fascinating topic of light. French will be based on days and months and be able to use the date accurately.  In Design and Technology, we will be designing and building bridges and celebrating differences in PSHE. Art is based on the amazing artist Frida Khalo.

Reading in Year 5/6...

As a school, we are continuing to focus on developing all of our children as enthusiastic readers. Therefore, reading will be a key part of the curriculum and timetable. As well as Guided Reading, your child will be expected to read daily, independently or with an adult. Please can you ensure your child has their reading book and blue home/school diary in school every day. Please sign the home/school diary when you have listened to them read at home. When listening to your child read, please can you discuss what they have read to check that they are reading with understanding and inference. If you would like a set of question prompts to use with your child, please see the resources section on the class page.

We are also running a 'Grand Draw' raffle system whereby, when a child reads five consecutive times and has a signature from an adult, they receive a raffle ticket to add to the class jar. At the end of every half-term, a golden ticket is drawn, and the lucky winner will receive a non-uniform day pass.

The last thing we would like to say is that our door is always open; it is vitally important that the children feel safe, happy and secure. Please feel free to come and speak to/call us at the end of the school day if you have any concerns.

Best Wishes
